The v1.23.0 .gif hinting at Death Grip's return.

Nightmare Night Event Enemy NPCs are a category of NPC Enemies that were a series of enemies introduced in the v1.23.0 update alongside the Health and Melee weapon mechanics. These enemies were only found during the 2022 Nightmare Night seasonal event. They could be found in the Sewers, and only the "Hill" Sewer entrance could be used as the others entrances had become blocked off either by a supernatural or physical force.

Each enemy is considered a threatening foe as unlike the Ghoul enemies located at the at the Ghoul Island these enemies use a mechanic to scale their HP and damage with the players present. Each enemy present here will have their base HP value recorded.

Most of these enemies, bar the boss, will randomly spawn with a variety of possible melee weapons (Sometimes even Legacy Weapons). At the time this does not affect their damage outputted, however the mechanic was changed in update v1.25.1

Tier 1

Tier 1 NPCs are the lowest tier of enemies, featuring the same amount of health as players, and move at the same speed as the player’s walk. They represent the generic enemy fodder which is present in the higher levels of the Sewer.

Boss

This section refers to Death Grip present as the boss of the 2022 Nightmare Night Event. For more general information and history on the NPC, see Death Grip.

Death Grip is the boss enemy of the event. A recurring presence each Autumn and Nightmare Night, and though the help of others became reanimated into a deadly threat. Their speed, health, and damage output makes them a force to contend with even with a significant amount of player to aid in the fight.
Death Grip will spawn in the southern most part of the Sewers, by the "Waste dump" Wasteland entrance aproximately every 20 minutes. If there are no players in their nearby vicinity, they will despawn. However this will shorten the respawn timer significantly.

Description

Death Grip is a flesh colored reanimated creature with bright green lights that glows from their eye sockets and nose cavity, their messy hair's ranges from a sickly green to a brown, implying dyed hair which has long since faded. They wear a decaying brown shirt with a dark brown vest, black pants and brown boots. On their head they wear their spiked helmet, with the spikes and skull drawing both in a crimson color.
Finally, unlike all other Enemies present in this event, they can only wield one item. The unique weapon, the 💎 Krivbekhavi.

Drops

Once killed they have a guarantee chance of dropping the following item, they also have a very small chance of dropping the Rose item:

Trivia

  • As hinted by the promotional .gif for v1.23.0 this list of enemies features a legion of ghoul-like creatures who used their powers to reanimate the hung skeleton of the raider, Death Grip.
  • Some of the NPCs possess references behind their names.
    • Their name is a reference to a series of image macros which describe a number of absurdist openers to the Television show Top Gear, they have all included changing the show's name to Bottom Gear.
    • The word Zashchita can be translated from Russian to mean 'Protection'.
    • The word Zavarukha can be translated from Russian to mean either 'commotion' or 'stir'.
  • It is hard to say what exactly Death Grip is, on one hand it is logical to call them a Ghoul, as in the promotional .gif for v1.23.0, they were surrounded by multiple glowing ghouls, and in several Fallout games Glowing ghouls are capable for reanimating dead ghouls. Plus their appearance here seems similar to that of the other Ghouls present. Conversely though, Death Grip never became a Ghoul, and instead had their flesh rotted until only the skeleton was left, rendering it theoretically impossible for them to ever be reanimated by a Glowing Ghoul. This suggests that instead they are of necromantic origin, potentially akin to a Revenant. This is supported by the unique Knife they wield, who's name holds two references towards necromancy.
