The Cigarette is a Consumable item which is sold occasionally by Copper Caps. The item was originally introduced in the v1.10.0 Update alongside a number of melee weapons and miscellaneous items.

Description

The Cigarette is made up of a thin white tube with an orange stripe at the end. Given the name, it mirrors the real life design of cigarettes. A tobacco column is rolled up inside a strip of cigarette paper fastened closed by an adhesive seam. The orange section internally contains a filter plug which is fastened closed and connected to the previous section by the use of an adhesive seam. The Filter plug is, as it name implies, used to filter the smoke which enters your body through your mouth.
Most notably, Cigarettes in Ashes Town are not accompanied by an adjoining lighter, raising questions as to how they are truly lit.

Consumption

When interacted with, either by using the E key; clicking the "Use item / Interact" or "Consume" Action button; or typing /consume, the Cigarette will become lit, and animated smoke can be seen escaping the item. Using the item once more will extinguish it turning it into "Cigarette Butt". The player will lose 1 HP each time it is consumed.

Trivia

• Prior to update v1.23.4, Cigarettes were strangely known as 'Cigar', which contravened the item's design.
  • A discussion notably occurred in the #ashes-town channel on the Ashes Town Discord Server in which the rename was discussed, as well as what word should be used to described a spent cigarette.
  • Strangely, the changelog introducing the item describes them as 'cigarettes', which was over three years before the name change was adopted.
• Single Cigarettes, like the ones that appear in Ashes Town, have existed as world objects and junk items throughout many games in the Fallout franchise, appearing in Fallout 3, 4, 76, and Fallout New Vegas.
